About Dovetail Quilts

My name is Shanda Davis, and I am the owner/collaborator of Dovetail Quilts.

Dovetail Quilts developed from a long history of quilting in my North Dakota family - starting with my Grandmother Ruth sewing quilts using her treadle Singer sewing machine using scraps and pieces cut from used clothing.  Almost forty years ago I talked my Mom into taking a quilting class from an area Art's Center and we both developed a love of the craft.  While I had less time for the hobby, raising two young boys, working full-time, returning to school, etc., my Mom, Frances, became a prolific quilter, completing quilts for al her three children, grandchildren, their spouses, and others. I, however, had to be satisfied with an occasional project squeezed into a busy life. :)

When I officially retired from a career in higher education administration, I knew I wanted a new challenge, and decided to establish Dovetail Quilts.   After my husband and I moved from Minnesota to the north Georgia mountains, I purchased an M24 Innova with Auto Pilot, named her "Naomi" and officially started this new journey.  I love to collaborate with quilters to help enhance the beauty of their projects!

I am part of two great organizations who donate quilts:  Quilts of Valor and am a member of the "longarm army". This group provides patriotic themed quilts to veterans as a way to honor and thank them for their service.  I also volunteer with Project Linus, Hamilton County.  Project Linus focuses on providing quilts and other types of blankets to children in need, perhaps by a first responder providing them a blanket in a traumatic situation, in a time of illness, other circumstances in which a blanket can provide not just warmth, but comfort.

I hope you will review some of my work examples and available patterns and that I will have the opportunity to collaborate with you to enhance you next project with quality, beautiful quilting!
