As I settled into my new workspace and got Naomi reassembled and running, I decided to build some much needed storage. I saw various ideas online for building a cutting table with storage and borrowed from those ideas for my own project. Below are photos of the step-by-step process of building a cutting table on rollers with storage using IKEA "Kallax" shelves as a starting base. I'm happy with the results and find the increased height of the cutting table, vs the folding table I had been using in the past to be much more comfortable for my back.
Step 1: Assembled two 8-section kallax shelving units.
Step 2: Join the two units together on the side ends with flat brackets.
Step 3: Rotate the unit so the bottom is on the top and add wooden straps/slats to help hold the units together.
Step 4: Attach wooden blocks at each corner of the bottom to attach the roller casters.
Step 5: Attach roller casters to the wodden block installed in Step 4
Step 6: Rotate the unit to be right-side up. Attach the top using "L" brackets - I used an IKEA tabletop that was the size I needed.
Step 7: Move into the desired location - place cutting mat on to the top surface and fill storage sections using bins, baskets, plastic tubs as desired!
